On Site Activities

Water Activities
Whether you prefer to traverse the waves in a kayak or wish to simply relax on a beautiful beach, our Florida Gulf Coast resort offers water fun for everyone.  Estero Bay is home to a huge variety of wildlife such as Dolphins and Manatees, as well as endangered species including Kemp's Ridley, leatherback, green and hawksbill turtles, and Loggerhead sea turtles (southwest Florida's most common). Imagine your kid's delight (and yours) to see these amazing creatures in their natural habitats. You may even see Dolphins trailing behind your boat, if you time it just right! Please note, Sea turtle nesting season is May 1 through October 31, and Shorebird nesting season is March 31 through August 31. Nesting areas are roped off on the beach and must be respected.

Kayak rental
Estero Bay is a great place for kayakers, where you can cruise both the Bay and the fresh water Estero River. Your trip may take you to early Calusa Native American villages, and you'll spot many species of birds including Eagles, Herons, Egrets, Osprey and Roseate Spoonbills, as well as manatee, dolphin and sharks in the bay.

Kayaks are available at the Marina, with single passenger and double passenger kayaks offered daily from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Kayaks are on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Cost:    Single $25/hour     Double $35/hour.

An adult must accompany all kayakers under 18 years old. Guided tours are also available - check our Tropical Tidbits newsletter for current details.

Big Hickory Island Beach
Hop aboard our water taxi for an enjoyable 15-minute ride to the private beach on Big Hickory Island Beach.  White soft sand and the brilliantly colored Gulf of Mexico create a quiet, restful spot with plenty of open chairs and umbrellas for those looking to relax. For those guests with more energy, the island is a great spot to hunt for shark's teeth, collect shells from the more than 400 types scattered throughout, build old-fashioned sand castles or just walk along the beautiful shoreline.

There are no lifeguards or snack bar at the beach (to help preserve the natural setting), so plan to stop by the resort's Kofe Nut Marketplace (which also houses a Starbucks) to pack some refreshments in one of its coolers. Snacks and refreshments are also available on the boat. Towels may be obtained from the Poolside Recreation Desk.

Boats depart the marina for the beach each day at:
9:45 a.m., 10:45 a.m.,11:45 a.m.,12:45 p.m.,1:45 p.m. and 2:45 p.m.

Boats depart the beach to return to the hotel each day at:
10:15 a.m., 11:15 a.m., 12:15 p.m., 1:15 p.m., 2:15 p.m., 3:15 p.m. and 4:15 p.m.
